Electric Cars and General Motors
By Roger Neumann
GM announced late last month that its new electric car, the Volt will be built in Flint Michigan. It is reported that they will employ 300 people. Flint Michigan was made famous by Michael Moore in his movie Roger and Me. Now Flint Michigan is Michael Moore's home town so he was very angry at then GM Chairman Roger Smith who had decided to close Flint auto plants employing thousands. Moore documented his attempts to get Chairman Smith to answer to the laid off workers for his devastating effect on these workers. I suppose that 300 jobs are better than nothing but it is just curious to me that they picked Flint after a long absence and years of economic decline in that city. That GM will spend $350 million is fine but the city fathers did grant them huge incentives. Perhaps Michael Moore should do a sequel after the plant is finished.

Contributor's Note
Michael Moore has made several movies I have seen including Fahrenheit 9-11, Sicko, and of course Roger and Me. I highly recommend another non-Moore film Who Killed the Electric Car ?
